6.12.1.1691 Beta Edge Count Measurements and Changes etc. (from Therapy 4/16)
This training is available to members of Nerdzgroup.
This module covers the Beta release of PicoScope 6.12.1.1691, including important compatibility and file format changes users need to be aware of before installing. Key installation considerations are discussed, including a critical bug in the waveform save function that can result in total loss of captured data.
The bulk of the session focuses on three new edge count measurements introduced in this beta:
- Edge Count (total)
- Rising Edge Count
- Falling Edge Count
These measurements are demonstrated on an optical distributor signal and a variable reluctance crank sensor, showing how they compare to the traditional frequency-based tooth counting method. The role of filtering in getting accurate results on noisy VR signals is also covered.
Practical applications of tooth counting are demonstrated, including building an RPM math channel and using crank sensor data for precise degree measurements. A real-world engine stall capture is used to illustrate how an RPM math channel can help determine whether distributor inputs and injector/ignition outputs are the cause of a stall event.
Additional topics touched on include phase ruler behavior and the rotation wrap setting, inverting a channel using a math channel, and camshaft sensor orientation verification on a Ford EDIS system.
