Using Reference Waveforms With Scope Views
This training is available to members of Nerdzgroup.
This module demonstrates how to combine PicoScope's reference waveform and scope views features to compare waveforms captured under different conditions — specifically, comparing a cranking engine to a running engine reference.
Using a 2004 Nissan Quest 3.5 no-start case study, Tom walks through how to set up a split-screen view to effectively compare cam and crank sensor waveforms at different RPMs, ultimately identifying a cam/crank timing relationship issue caused by a jumped timing belt.
The module also covers an important VVT-specific consideration: cam flop — a mechanical anomaly commonly seen at low RPM and cranking speeds that can produce misleading camshaft sensor pulses. You'll learn why this happens and how to account for it when capturing known-good reference waveforms on VVT engines.
