This module covers the Alarms feature introduced in PicoScope 6.4.28.0, which allows automated actions to be triggered based on capture events.
Tom walks through the two alarm events (capture complete and buffer full) and the available actions, including beep, play sound, stop, restart, save current screen, save all buffers, and run an executable. The primary focus is on the buffer full event combined with save all buffers and restart, which allows continuous capture without losing waveforms as they roll out of the buffer.
A few practical notes are also covered:
- Alarms are disabled when PicoScope is closed and reopened
- Action order matters — incorrect ordering can cause unexpected behavior
- The feature currently works in block mode only, not streaming mode
- Saving large files rapidly can fill up a hard drive quickly if left unattended
