This module introduces the digital persistence modes added in PicoScope 6, covering how they differ from standard scope mode in terms of sample rate, zoom capability, and buffer behavior.

Tom walks through the available persistence settings including:

  • Digital Color and Analog Intensity display modes
  • Decay time, saturation, and decayed intensity controls
  • Line drawing options (phosphor emulation, constant density, scatter)
  • Background color and persistence mode configurations

The module also demonstrates a practical automotive application using Digital Color mode on a secondary ignition waveform to identify cylinder-specific spark time variations and dwell differences — similar to the superimposed views available on older lab scopes.

The overall takeaway is that persistence mode has limited automotive utility compared to standard scope mode, but understanding its settings allows you to identify situations where it may be useful.
