Part 5 presents a series of real-world intermittent and driveability diagnostic case studies, walking through the strategy and scope work used to identify each fault efficiently.

Cases covered include:

  • A 90 Mitsubishi Mirage with a random stall diagnosed in a single capture using power transistor command and coil primary monitoring
  • An 88 Honda Civic with a persistent rich condition traced to leaking injectors, including a relevant Honda TSB
  • A 93 Dodge Caravan with an intermittent misfire caused by a cam sensor adjustment issue introduced during a timing chain service, with detailed examination of the cam/crank signal sequence
  • A 99 Chrysler Cirrus with hard starting and acceleration bog diagnosed remotely using primary failure analysis to confirm a weak coil

Throughout these cases, Tom reinforces the importance of pre-test strategy, knowing your equipment's sampling limits, and using primary failure analysis to validate coil drive before condemning expensive components.
