This module covers PIP and spout signal interaction within the TFI-4 system, including how their waveform relationship changes with RPM and timing advance across both push start and CCD designs.
Common failure modes are examined in depth, including heat-related module failures, pickup-induced PIP disruptions, and how to distinguish between a faulty ICM and a faulty distributor pickup. A DIY pickup tester tool is introduced as a practical solution for isolating the root cause without guesswork.
The module also addresses the magnetized distributor shaft theory and explains why it is a myth, then wraps up with an introduction to the Low Data Rate Distributorless Ignition System (LDR DIS), covering:
- System components and their responsibilities (ICM, PCM, crank and cam sensors)
- PIP and CID signal characteristics
- Computer-controlled dwell and timing
- IDM signal behavior and its diagnostic role
- Dual plug inhibit operation on the 2.3 dual plug engine
