This module covers how to use math channels in PicoScope software to streamline voltage drop testing across a circuit.
Trevor walks through a recommended connection strategy for voltage drop testing, then demonstrates how to build math channels that calculate voltage drop across multiple points simultaneously — eliminating the need to manually subtract readings. He also covers applying a low-pass filter to math channels to clean up signal noise and make results easier to interpret.
Real-world captures are used as examples, including a BMW no-crank diagnosis and a Ford Fiesta cranking test, showing how math channels can reveal:
- Voltage drop across the positive cable
- Total circuit voltage drop (positive and ground paths combined)
- Starter inrush and average cranking voltage drop values
