Yeah, that's BS if we haven't heard of it here first.

I suspect what was seen was a 4824.  There is no Automotive 8 channel.

That does not mean you could not use the 4824 test and measurement scope for automotive.  However this would be for the experienced only.

Things to consider:

The 4824 does not work with the automotive software.  But you can customize the test and measurement software with automotive probes, etc.

The 4824 has no thermal fuse protection.  Grounds are common and any accident there with a ground loop would be fatal should you short circuit something.  Not a problem as long as you remember the 'ground' rules and don't do anything reckless.

The 4824 has a 50v max input.  This means that you would not want to forget an attenuator on any circuit with a high voltage kick like ignition primary or damage could easily result.

That being said, it's an awesome scope.  In the right hands, it wold be a very powerful diagnostic tool.

We had a couple of requests for one and so we did put together a 4824 kit of sorts.  Then these individuals changed their mind.  So, we still have them and they are on our sale page with special pricing:

http://www.autonerdz.com/4824.html

These do not come bundled with a Picogroup subscription but that would not matter to those who already are members.

We only have two and will not be ordering any more for stock.  We can special order but the cost would be a lot higher.  So, if anyone want one......

Yes, I should have been more specific, I was aware of that one, I should have said 8 channel automotive scope.  Thanks for pointing that out Tom.

I think the 4824 would be fine for anyone with a little Pico experience, keep the grounds on battery - and know when to use attenuators.

There's an example capture in my folder on the drop site.

Sam, I have a 3000 series and the new 4425. If, I get the right vehicle I am going to try it Wink

The double software, as I understand only applies to two of the same model. Without going into a ton of detail out of the Picogroup keep in mind running multiple scopes is intensive on a PC so don't do it on a low resource pc.

I have successfully ran up to three Pico's at once.  I think I showed that on the Ford Contour thread in the pigogroup general discussion.

I enquired to Tom and Brian about one. great looking scope but with my luck, first time I would use it I'd forget an attenuator and fry it. Hopefully one day they make it automotive ready but I had to hold off at this time.

If you want a whole bunch of channels check this out.

You can write your own software and use this function to hook up 64 PicoScopes
I found this in the PicoScope Application Programmers Interface.

4.9 Combining several oscilloscopes
It is possible to collect data using up to 64 PicoScope 4000 Series PC Oscilloscopes at
the same time, depending on the capabilities of the PC. Each oscilloscope must be
connected to a separate USB port. The ps4000OpenUnit function returns a handle to
an oscilloscope. All the other functions require this handle for oscilloscope
identification.

Note: It is not possible to synchronise the collection of data between oscilloscopes that
are being used in combination.

a birdy told me it was Scot Mana's 8 channel scope

If anyone is still interested, Scot Manna is the proud owner of the non-automotive 8ch Pico, and he shared some captures of GDI injectors in class.  As Tom said, Scot was using the non-auto Pico 6 for those captures.  Unfortunately, the class manual was poorly made with drastically small pictures, so I didn't even bother to ask him if the images could be shared.

If anyone wants one of these 4824 kits, let us know.  If they don't move soon, we plan to send them back to Pico.

Hey Tom, if it's taking up too much space at your place I'd be happy to "store" it for you until someone purchases it  Wink

recently had the need to diagnose 2 cars both with intermittent problems that needed hours of run time, buying another Pico and laptop would of helped me, but got me thinking this would be a better option than buying an 8 channel job - that's if the software could somehow synchronize both units.

The chatter over at Pico forums is that the need for 6-8 channel is very low for the automotive market so it wont happen, so Pico if you're listening, how about making an effort to develop a special brew of software to combine 2 or more scope units
what do you other nerdz think?

That's on the wish list....     Wink

If the Pico team cold pull that off it would be awesome.
