Wouldn't it be nice to work on newer stuff everyday?
Well, yes, it sure would.

You never worked a new car dealer, correct?
I worked for a Toyota dealership for a very short time. It didn't take me long to realize that I was going to be bored out of my mind just doing the daily grind ( i.e. maintenance, brakes, flushes, bulbs, etc. ). I wasn't seeing any form of wacky problems, intermittents, drivability complaints, etc.. I know that I may have been exposed to it on occasion if I had stayed there, but it just wasn't going to be enough for me.

They are always looking for good tech's.It might be worth your while to look into that for a starting point. Some will even have a nice sign on bonuses and possibly help pay for your move.
Yes, I agree. I have put dealerships on my list, but closer to the bottom than the top. I don't much care for the politics involved with any of the dealerships I have been exposed to. I don't much care for the way that it seems most of them treat there techs. I also don't like being disconnected from the customer. Color me naive, but I feel like in my lifetime I can contribute vastly to the image of our industry as a whole, one customer at a time, rebuilding the trust that was likely lost so long ago. I feel that a dealership is not going to be the place I can accomplish that. The dealer is a great place for many techs, but I'm just not one of them. Now that being said, I have a family to take care of first and foremost and I will do what I have to do, the dealer has it's benefits, and after the emails and phone calls I have been making, they are moving up higher on the list
BTW Karl, where exactly do you work, did a guy just retire from there? My BIL just told me that his uncle retired from "the town" as he calls it, as a mechanic working for the city or something like that.
