Well, after as much work I have put in to looking for new digs and coming up short, I may have to "take what I can get" in the near future.  Thanks for the confidence in my ability  [smiley=dance.gif]

Preston,
I know you like working on anything and everything and you do that well.  Wouldn't it be nice to work on newer stuff everyday?(CAR DEALER) Not that it matters down south. You don't even need a torch down there.
You never worked a new car dealer, correct? They are always looking for good tech's.It might be worth your while to look into that for a starting point. Some will even have a nice sign on bonuses and possibly help pay for your move.

  Well, yes, it sure would.

I worked for a Toyota dealership for a very short time.  It didn't take me long to realize that I was going to be bored out of my mind just doing the daily grind ( i.e. maintenance, brakes, flushes, bulbs, etc. ).  I wasn't seeing any form of wacky problems, intermittents, drivability complaints, etc..  I know that I may have been exposed to it on occasion if I had stayed there, but it just wasn't going to be enough for me.

Yes, I agree.  I have put dealerships on my list, but closer to the bottom than the top.  I don't much care for the politics involved with any of the dealerships I have been exposed to.  I don't much care for the way that it seems most of them treat there techs.  I also don't like being disconnected from the customer.  Color me naive, but I feel like in my lifetime I can contribute vastly to the image of our industry as a whole, one customer at a time, rebuilding the trust that was likely lost so long ago.  I feel that a dealership is not going to be the place I can accomplish that.  The dealer is a great place for many techs, but I'm just not one of them.  Now that being said, I have a family to take care of first and foremost and I will do what I have to do, the dealer has it's benefits, and after the emails and phone calls I have been making, they are moving up higher on the list  :'(

BTW Karl, where exactly do you work, did a guy just retire from there?  My BIL just told me that his uncle retired from "the town" as he calls it, as a mechanic working for the city or something like that.

Kid Its to bad your not moving here. We need someone who can fix thing here because I sure cant.  ;D
For the past 3 years I've been working for the City of Somerville next to Boston. I retired from a almost 23 year bout with Ford.
What City/Town did he work for? and no no one retired. The dude that was here before me went to Cambridge Fire.
