PicoScope 3423 on a Windstar

Just thought I would post up some ignition primary captures from a 2001 Ford Windstar 3.8 V6.  I wanted to capture all the primary voltages and currents.  The access on this application is difficult.  The coils are buried behind the intake under the cowl.  So, I approached the PCM which was a bit tight but relatively easy and also kept the current probe away from the EMF near the coils.

The current probe is around the three primary wires and the other channels are sampling each driver voltage.

This is at idle 700 RPM

Here is the idle capture at 50x zoom.  Note the double strike firings.

Now we raise the RPM to 4000

And the 50x zoom on the 4000 RPM capture.  It's not double firing at this RPM.

Even at this long time base and RPM, we still capture all the detail we need.   8)

Hi Tom,

I think the PS3423 is a power users' dream. I'm finding that it is incredible the amount of sweep speed that is allowable and the zoom in on the detail. Sometimes I'll turn on the low pass filter for less detail, but other times I don't to see other activity in the trace. This may appear to be noise for some, but it is information for me in some instances. I like the flexability to control this.

Now we just need to refine the record function. Wink

This to me, is probably the biggest disappointment to an otherwise decent looking machine.

Don't be too disappointed Harv  Cry

The hardware is quite capable of high speed data transfer and record.  I did a save on trigger session using USB 2.0 to test this.  The test was for 30 seconds.  I had the scope dialed up to the max on all four channels with a one second screen time.  During the 30 second record, I got 27 screens saved to the hard drive.  That's 90% of everything that was happening recorded.

OK, it's not 100%....YET.  This is new hardware and I think it is capable of continuous high speed record.  I think we can look for this feature as the software grows into this very powerful hardware.  The only reason it can't do it right now, I feel is a software limitation.
