This module covers the Pico NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) diagnostic tool, including hardware setup, sensor orientation, and software configuration within Pico Diagnostics.
Topics include:
- Single-channel vs. three-axis sensor differences and proper mounting orientation
- X, Y, and Z axis assignments and what each represents in a vehicle context
- Entering vehicle data (tire size, gear ratios, accessory pulley sizes) to accurately label vibration sources
- Interpreting NVH captures, including T1/T2/T3 (tire-speed orders), P1/P2 (propeller shaft orders), and E1 (engine)
- Using the OBD dongle to capture vehicle speed and RPM data
- Drive shaft balancing using the built-in balancing workflow
- Gear selection as a diagnostic technique to isolate driveline vs. engine vibrations
The module closes with a real-world case study on a 2009 Nissan Rogue with a post-collision vibration, demonstrating how NVH data led to identifying a faulty U-joint as the root cause, with before-and-after captures showing the repair result.
