This introductory module sets the stage for Nerd 3, briefly orienting viewers to how the course builds on Nerd 1 and 2 while standing on its own. The primary focus is low secondary output as a root cause of drivability concerns, and how to approach it with a physics-based diagnostic method that applies universally across vehicles.

Topics covered include:

  • Direct coil output testing and risk management
  • Using a lab scope to analyze primary ignition drive
  • Faraday's law and its role in coil behavior
  • Lenz's law and how it produces the current ramp
  • Inductor transient calculations and what current rise tells us about stored energy

The goal is to build a solid theoretical foundation so that the practical diagnostic techniques introduced later in the course make sense and can be applied confidently in the field.
