Introduction.......or short bio
Mar 3rd, 2013 at 7:45am

Where to start....Well My Name is Scott and I am the shop foreman of a small independent European repair shop.  I am 31 and just had my first child a little over 3 months ago.  I have always had a love for cars, but am relatively new to the Automotive Repair world.  I have only been working as a technician for about 5-6 years now.  I was in the military for 9 years and after serving a couple of tours over seas, decided it was time to get out and stop getting shot at.  Man I really don't miss that.  I realized I was behind the learning curve by starting a new career in a field most of it's employee's starting doing with their fathers and while they were still in High School.  None the less it excited me and I decided to pursue my passion for cars and learn how they really worked.  Besides how hard could it be......right.....well I guess that depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you really want to go.  I soon realized that replacing the parts was the easy part.  I do tend to get bored easy, so there had to be more to keep me in this field.  And then I started to discover how in depth the systems of modern automobiles could go.  I was starting to become intrigued and wanted to further my knowledge.  So I put down the beers and started spending my evenings on the web and in books and watching video's on everything I could find.  Sadly, or not so sadly, I am still doing it almost 6 years later.  I truly want to know as much as I can possibly fit inside this brain of mine.

Along the way I have had to mostly teach myself, as I have had a lack of proper guidance along the way.  So now with a newborn son being a good reason to sell my motorcycle I am able to purchase a PicoScope and really start a new era of education for myself.  I haven't been this excited about something in a long time and truly look forward to learning as much as I possibly can about Creative LSD.  I have been mostly reading post and watching YouTube video's on how to properly use a lab scope and attempting to use the Snap-On Verus that my shop currently owns.  It's been a slow process due to the poor excuse of a scope Snap-On makes.  I hate to say it, but I am extremely disappointed with their scopes and I have been extremely aggravated while trying to use it.  I'm sure that is partly due to me being inexperienced with using a scope, but after just playing with the Pico software, I realize it is partly due to the equipment I was using.

My specialty is BMW and I have been working with Mercedes for almost 2 years now.  I'm not sure how much help I would be when it comes to helping with scope information on those, but I am a wealth of knowledge on the systems.  So if anyone needs some technical or function description on those systems, feel free to ask away.  If I don't know, I'll tell you!  I'd rather be ignorant on something than lead you in the wrong direction.  Hope I can learn and help while here.

That would indeed be a good reason. That's what put off my riding American for 20 years.
Welcome to LSD.  I too fight with SO scopes, and get frustrated, probably because I don't understand the control buttons. Every Time I turn the darn thing on it's like the first day of school all over again.

I had a few over the years.  I started as Heavy Transport, then moved on to Heavy Equipment, and lastly I joined the Infantry!

Well it's been quite a long time since I've been on here.  Many of you know me and I'm sure there are several new members that don't.  I won't go into who I am, that's already been done, but I did want to let everyone know that I should be spending some more time on here and I'm sure much has changed and I look forward to catching up.

I sustained a shoulder injury some time ago now and it looks like I may be finally getting back to work in about a month or so...  I know that's not necessarily the best reason to go MIA, but when you don't even look under the hood of a car in this long, you kinda start drifting in other directions.  Speaking of which I have spent much of the recent time doing some small machining.  I ended up with a HF mini mill and mini lathe along with with some other tools.  So I have been spending some time improving those machines, which they need a lot of, and learning some basic machining techniques.

Anyways, I plan on spending some more time back on here and catching up and I look forward to knocking off some of the rust and getting this brain working a little more.
