secondary ignition waveform

Well here is my first go at grabbing a secondary waveform using my hameg 40 mhz scope.
not the full wave but just a   segment, my limited experience says something is wrong, with the coil etc
the car is a 1994 Volvo 850 2.0 litre 20 valve

time  200 microseconds  volt  .5 volt

Thats a very good attitude, it's just that I haven't looked at a scope screen like that in years.  I don't know what to make of that capture either, maybe some of the older guys would know, he he he  Wink

I was just matching it up to waveform examples

bangshout,
What are you doing!!! You can't monitor secondary ignition with that scope, you will destroy it! There are special probes that fit to that type of scope to monitor high voltage. C'mon get a grip!

I don't think there was any need for the "C'mon get a grip!" was there?, everyone starts somewhere, so the explanation about additional probes you give would have done on its own.
well that's my opinion anyway.

OK I think it may have been taken out of context, where I come from it is considered 'humour', and that was exactly how it was meant. So if my regional humour offended anybody please accept my appologies and get a grip! Only kiddin!

Finally had another go at capturing secondary ignition waveforms, while work is quiet.
Again this is my 1994 volvo 850 2 litre,to my inexperienced eye the kv of the firing line looks a bit high, and the burn time a bit short, maybe a partially blocked injector.
The image was captured at idle

since the pico has made me lazy, i'll need your help deciphering the x and y scales.  looks like it is set to 100v per division vertical, and 2ms per division horizontal, right?

i'm guessing your using some sort of secondary probe that doesn't show the kv scaling on the scope.  so, i figure (depending on the zero line) somewhere around 450 volts equals 4.5kv.  sound about right?

then, it looks to be somewhere in the neiborhood of 1.7 to 1.8 ms burn time.  that's pretty normal.

if i'm reading it right, this waveform seems ok to me.  you'll find the dirty injectors by capturing secondary during a "snap throttle".  quickly press and release the pedal from wide open throttle to closed throttle.  then review your waveform for the very high "nose" on the end of the burn time.
