Newbie From Ontario

Hey everyone, the mechanic at my shop referred me to this site.  I've been doing my own auto repairs since I was 14 (32 now) and just recently decided to make it my vocation.  I should be signed up as an apprentice starting this coming monday.  I also have 3 years of Mech. Engineering schooling under my belt, which gives me some insight on metallurgy, and electronics background.  I hope to learn some in depth trouble shooting skills from here, and maybe I can lend my skills as well Smiley  Take it easy everyone!

That's cool, how are things going with your new job?  Mine is taking off slowly, so far just brakes mostly, and the little stuff like tires and oil changes.  I hope to get more challenging jobs sooner than later

  There is just myself and a Vietnamese fellow(my boss) whom has been in the U.S. for 25 years. Language has been a pathetic barrier for him. He did not know what glow plugs were. He does not know what long and short term fuel trim are. He did not know that the downstream O2 sensor ought not be oscillating.
The shortcuts he takes in his sincerity make my teeth grate. He wants me to help himwith the OBD2 and diagnostic tool use and tells me he will turn the shop over to me (for me to buy) in a few years so, I am hopeful that all will be well.

My previous job was all about language barriers, LOL...  In the end I would love to be knee deep in diagnostic work.  I've found in other situations, as well as automotive, that my diagnostic skills are great as long as I understand how something works.  Not many people listen to me, but in the end  I'm usually right  Grin

Owning your own shop is the best, I would love to accomplish that some day!  There's a need for reliable, trustworthy auto shops here, and I'm sure everywhere.  Good Luck Man!!
