Let us know your results when you try this probe.
I have the original right from the inventor. I can't get it to  work any where near trhe hype.

I have played around with it a little with good results.  While I have not had the opportunity to experiment with a COP application I did these captures of a coil on a Ford TFI 4 distributor system:

...

And this one from a Honda Coil In Cap:

...

Of course, the actual firing KV displayed will be a function of the proximity to the coil and the coil, so won't necessarily be accurate.  However, the spark line detail and oscillations are excellent.  The samples here were turned down to 100,000.  If you zoom, the rotor notch is really nice too.

Hi Tom:

If you set it on 20ms on the honda coil do you think you could find a problem with the ignition system or are we still better to do one wire at a time?

The imports all have the coil on plug or the dist cap like the honda and it sure would be nice to have something that works .

Thanks for your input.

Hi Tom:

Thanks for the captures they look good on both scopes.

Is there any way to hold this probe to the cap so you could do a road test or a snap throtle with out it falling in the fan I hate when that happens?

Alot of times the coil will fail on the road and not in the shop so there would have to be a way to keep the probe in place for it to work for me.

I will have to give you a call I bought a new laptop and will need the codes for the nerdz collection.

Well I am out of time keep up the good work.

Rich

Hi Rich,

It's not really practical to latch the probe in place.  It's designed to be hand held and used as a wand.  If you want Coil In Cap adapters, AES makes a nice set that clip to the cap and then you can attach your capacitive pickup to them.  They work great.

Just email me your Nerd CD codes for your new PC and I will send you the keys.

   Heed this oh fellows;
I was experimenting with just such a clip on a "DUI" brand ignition I have installed on my old Ford six cylinder motor. This is based on or is an aftermarket HEI with cetrifugal and vacuum advance.I left the clip on having forgotten it was there... driving over hills as the motor warmed up, I began to hear the nastiest intermittent sort of hammering sound that began to sound strangely like a backfire, but with a potential to be much more intense if I did not correct it.
I could not figure out what might cause such a backfire until I thought about the clip. I stopped the vehicle, pulled off the clip and ...no more back fire.
I have been meaning to ask if anybody else has had that experience? It happened under load.
Sorry to put a cloud on your discussion but you ought know.I think that may not happen with all systems.
