Animated smilies
Aug 5th, 2011 at 10:39am

Is anyone else annoyed by the animated smilies? I think they're ok in a laid back setting that most forums have, but here is more of a work/technical type setting and they don't fit, at least for me. Makes the board look more like a playground than a technical site.

We are a laid back forum james : note the LSD.

We are all to high on LSD so we like the movement and flashing colors.  Grin

Anyhow, just look at them as a way to express emotion. We like to work hard, but is it not ok to have some fun while you are doing it? Huh

you make a valid point, but would you really like this site to be as 'stuffy' as the other well known sites?

i will confess that the newer ones can be overwhelming (maybe not the right term, but i'll stick with it), however i agree with randy that showing 'emotion' in this medium is difficult without them.  unless you would prefer we wrote posts with a shakespearean flair  Grin.  (sorry, i really did try to make a post without a smiley)

Well, dude, I have rarely used the smilies. I dont think so much of them either. As far as making me understand electronics better, they dont.
However the site cant help but perform as a social medium and the emoticons can serve as ice breakers. I used one once when Tom aroused wrath at a site which did not want any links to other sites posted on it  (Tom posted a link to IATN, suggesting one somebody look there for professional advice) It was a big uproar. Here is the emoticon I used... Kiss
I also like this one  Cheesy because it reflects my attitude towards any work I do.
