I attended a misfire diagnosis class and was impressed at first. Then I had the chance to play with it a few times that first impression was gone. Undecided

Shay,

We don't use, sell, or support the ACE.  So, we don't really have anything useful to add about that.

Have you tried Pico Diagnostics?  It's free from Pico and now included with the latest PicoScope 6 Automotive installer.  Still needs some work but the price is right.   Wink   Getting better all the time.

It has many problems Shay.

Won't print reports on A4 paper correctly.
The PM upgrade has now been withdrawn. (this really gets my goat)
Compression tests are out of scale more often than not.

They say that there is an update coming....

In my opinion I think getting the BASIC FUNCTIONS of the software operating correctly would be a good idea before worrying about things like 64 bit compatibility.

shay, if your post on iatn about this subject was pulled because of me, i apologize.  i had noticed you had the same question posted here, on picotech, and on iatn.  when i made my response to you there, they may have misunderstood and thought that you had posted multiple threads on the subject.  if that is what happened, please forgive me for screwing it up Sad.

RoleModel Software, Inc writes the A.C.E software.

http://www.rolemodelsoft.com/people

If you take a look at the picture at the top of that web page you can actually see the head developer for A.C.E in the bright green t shirt at the end. Roll Eyes

Perhaps we will also get some positive comments about ACE here.  I know that some like it.

John Thompson does the ACE software.  I met him years ago when he was in one of my classes back East.  Nice smart guy.  He told me what he was doing by detecting misfires with a software program and O2 waveforms.  I would have never believed it was possible, but he showed me.

Of course, there have been many developments since then.  We just never got much involved with it though.  I thought it was really cool but was not sure that there was a real market for it and our plate was full anyway.

My suggestion is to give John a chance to assist you with any issues you are having with the ACE and be patient with the process, just like you would be with us.  I'm sure he will put out the effort and do the best he can.

Hi Tom

I bought  A.C.E program 1 month ago, I believed  this program before I   bought and I see all DVD of John Thompson and Bernie Thompson from TST.

I work with firstlook 2.5 year without A.C.E program ,  it's work excellent..

The first car to test was GMC Truck 6.0 2001 VIN U 8 cylinder. the customer complaint was MIL P0300 and misfire in idle cylinder #2 show in tech 2 ( current misfire) no load.
I connect the A.C.E program and the program show cylinder #6.
I write to Thompson Automotive Labs Forums and John  wrote to me:
sometimes in 8 cylinder you need to look on the wave to ID the signature of misfire. and I need to look for high line in the correct column.

The second engine was 1.6 Chevrolet optra 2004 4 cylinder MIL on P0300  I connect the A.C.E program and the program show cylinder #1 and #4.  I tested secondary wave graph and I find  high resistance in   Ignition Cable cylinder #2.
I write again  to Thompson and he block my posting permissions in the Forums.and send me email:

"Unfortunately your poor usage and understanding of the English language comes across in our forums as harsh, combative and uneducated. Your inability to communicate well in English and to understand what is written in our forums is not good for either of us so we have been forced to remove your ability to post on the forums. You will still however be able to continue reading and learning in any of our forums"

And erase all me post and pic.

I be happy to learning on firstlook misfire graph.

Thanks
shay

with all of the overlays and understanding what you are looking at (that's the hardest part most times), i don't see what use there is for the ace or the emissfire programs.  personally, i wouldn't want a program to take away the coolest part of waveforms.  the analyzing part.
john is a very smart person, and his contributions on this forum are more than enough proof.  in fact, the ace cam/crank waveform library is a great start to a personal collection.  the misfire programs just seem like a crutch that would ultimately delay further learning.

Yes, you are correct Tom. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was looking at the site and saw the picture with the young fella and thought it was funny.
