Gogetta,

Copied from our FAQ:

http://www.autonerdz.com/faq.htm

What are the PC system requirements for PicoScope?

There are PicoScope 5.xx versions, for any Pentium class PC that runs windows 98 SE or higher.  For best performance, we recommend a USB 2.0 port.  USB 1.1 works fine and sample rates are not affected but screen updates in Block Mode are not as fast.

For PicoScope 6.xx we recommend more RAM, CPU speed and disk space.  1GB of RAM for XP and 2GB for Vista, 1 GHz processor or higher, and 350MB for the installation.  The largest part of this is the required Microsoft .NET Framework needed for this software.  Also, a USB 2.0 port is required for the high speed streaming capabilities.  Things that are needed by OS:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 and .NET framework 2.0

Vista 32bit and .NET Framework 2.0

If your PC needs any of the components listed, the PicoScope 6 installer will try to go get them off the Internet.  This takes a while the first time through and, if you are not connected during the install, it will fail to complete.

Quite right.  You can't experience high speed streaming mode using the demo and this is when you get the heaviest PC loads.

If it has the resources listed above, you will be fine.

You can use the resolution you are comfortable with.  Since you can zoom in to microscopic levels, you can expand on any detail you wish to see.  There is no resolution that can display all the data that Pico can collect since we are talking about millions of samples per channel on a single screen.  You expand to reveal the detail.

You can run it with as little as 800x600 if you want.

I just bought one of these to use with my Pico.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220442

I have the Pico software installed, but haven't brought it to work yet to try it with my Picoscope.  I'll tell you one thing though, this seems to be a great little computer.  It has a built in web cam and I used it with Skype to talk to my daughter and see my new grand daughter.

The wireless works right out of the box with very little setup.  The processor is plenty fast and 1 gig of ram that it comes with seems to work fine.  It only has one slot for ram, so it you want to upgrade to 2gig, you will need to get a 2 gig stick and pull out the 1 gig.  Ram is really cheap now though. Cheesy

I'd recommend this computer, I'm pretty confident that it will work fine with my Pico.  Right now I'm using an old HP Omnibook XE that is only running a 266mhz celeron and 256mb of ram and I can run Pico 6 without a problem, that's why I'm confident the new ASUS Eee PC will work fine.  The new little PC has a 160gig hard drive in it too. Smiley

I tried my Eee PC today with the Picoscope hooked up to my signal generator board.  I had all four channels hooked up and the sample rate dialed up to the max and in streaming mode.  It works great.  I just wanted to report back in case someone is considering buying one of these mini laptops.
