Preparing Images and Uploading Files.

Uploading images and files to the forums here is easy.  Just note the attach browse window under the message area when posting.  The browse to your image or file.  Note the allowed file types and maximum attachment size.   At this time, you can only attach one file per post.

At this point, if you preview your message, you will have to attach the file again.  This is for security.  So, attach your file when you are done editing and ready to hit the post button.

Most data files require no preparation as long as it is an allowed file type.  if you have a file type that is not on the list, contact me about what to do.  I may be able to offer suggestions to convert it, or maybe it's time to add another file type extension to the list  Wink

Image files are different.  Here are a few guidelines to help you make your images easier to view and optimize the dimensions and file size.

First, if your image is a photo you probably want to make it a jpg.  This file type provides a very good file size while maintaining excellent image quality.

If your image is a scope capture, chart or other lower resolution image, a gif file is usually the best choice for quality and file size.

Image dimensions are another issue to consider.  Very large images don't fit well and are difficult to view in the posts, as you have to scroll around a lot to see it all.  You can resize the image an/or crop it to size with a free image editing program like IrfanView.  Remember that not all visitors may be using as high a screen resolution as you are.  Generally an 800 x 600 image fits best for all users but 1024 x 768 standard size is also OK if your need it a bit larger for small print detail or something.  The site is designed for a minimum 1024 x 768 total screen resolution.

Here is a movie from our PicoScope tutorial library that shows how to do images.  The same procedures can be used with photos and IrfanView.  This is an older movie using PicoScope 5 before we could open Pico data files with the demo program.  This also shows you what our tutorial movies are like.  We have a large number of these covering many aspects of PicoScope 5 and 6 use which are in our Picogroup only areas and are for support group members only.  I am moving this one into the public area now.  The methods used here would work with anything you can display on your PC screen.
