Error Code
Jul 24th, 2004 at 2:21pm

Hi all,

I am trying to set up a PICO ADC 212 on two Thinkpads. One runs 98se and the other 2000Pro. I have the latest software which installs ok but when I try to start the scope I get "Picoscope could not open the following product, adc212".

When I click on help and then about I get the following -

Release 5.10.0
ADC Driver V3.03
Error 13 (HO SO)

It seems that neither lappy can recognise the scope. I have tried renameing the printer ports and changeing the resource settings.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

The error code "HO SO" is a communication error. The software is not receiving data through the parallel port.

Check the I/O range for LTP1. It should be set to 0378-037F. In BIOS you should have unidirectional, SPP, normal or output only. If none of these are available, ask your PC manufacturer which mode is for output only. Do not set the mode to ECP, EPP, or bidirectional.

Hi Carl,

Many thanks for the reply. From my searching it seems this is a common problem. In my case disableing bi-directional support for the printer did the trick.

regards.

Hi Alan,

Carl was right on.  Although many PCs communicate fine with other settings, when they don't, changing the settings can establish communication.  When using the parallel port for Pico, it is best not to have any other software that uses the port for communication.  It's best to dedicate that port to Pico and use the USB for printers.  Besides, then you can print directly from PicoScope.

On rare occasions, with some PCs, parallel port communication cannot be used.  In that event, the Pico USB adapter is the alternative.

Hi Alan,

I happen to be one of those that uses the USB to Parallel port adapter Tom speaks of. I had a unique case of loosing syncronization between the ADC and PC. The adapter cured it. The Pico technical director had this nailed down in short order. A simple Email to the Picogroup was all it took. Tom fired over the adapter immediately and I was up and running within a few days. How's THAT for service and support?

I'm happy to be associated with such a good bunch of people that go out of their way help a fellow user. Not only is the ADC 212 a precision affordable DSO, the support is remarkable. I'm looking forward to see what Pico Technology Ltd. comes out with next. They always seem to be making progress.

Enjoy your PicoScope,
