Worn BNC connectors

After 5 years work, I've got to replace all my BNC fittings again, the center pins have opened up looks black/grey dirty causing loose contact.
My test leads looks like the gold contacts are also worn, they don't look shiny anymore, I tried cleaning them with a fibre glass brush

About 2 years ago, one connector had open circuit

Is this normal wear and tear?

Looks like you have been using that scope for seven years.   Smiley

We do see this from time to time and a lot of it has to do with how the scope is deployed and how often it is used.  If the scope gets a lot of use, and the leads are disconnected and reconnected each time this will eventually take a toll over one that is hanging on a cart with the leads attached most of the time.

Of course, one must detach a lead to use an attenuator but that is not necessary every time.

We also see the BNCs damaged by tripping over the leads.  Sometimes this doesn't do visible damage but can create issues later.  Again, deploying it on a boom where the leads are up and out of the way reduces this risk.
