90 deg USB Cable
Mar 31st, 2022 at 2:16am

I know our scopes work best with the blue USB cable that was supplied.  I am wanting to use a USB cable that has a 90 deg angle to go into my laptop.  Is there anything specific I can look for in a USB cable that will give me a good idea if it will work?

If I recall, the blue cable had larger contact pads in the ports to make a better connection?  Is that correct?  Are there any other specs I should look for in a cable?  Has anyone had any luck with finding quality cables that didn't have any issues?

I know the USB cable has been talked about many times, and I couldn't seem to find any results that mentioned alternatives.

The usual statements apply here. Brand, reviews, seller return policy. If you recognize the brand, and you're buying from a reputable place and the reviews are good you are on the right track.

Yes, this was done to combat low quality USB ports used by some PC manufacturers at the time.

USB 3.0 SS (Super speed)

Borrowed from Monoprice "This cable features a USB 3.0 Type-C™ connector on one end and a USB 3.0 Type-B connector on the other end. The USB 3.0 Type-B connector differs from the traditional USB 2.0 Type-B connector in that it has 5 additional pins, which carry SuperSpeed data."

I have this cable from Monoprice and it seems to work just fine.

I also have this cable i sourced from Amazon. It also works just fine.

I'm still using the 4423, so I'll have to stick to a USB 2.0 cable.  Well, a USB 3.0 cable may work, just not a type b.

Thanks for the advice!

Some 4423 users have had trouble with non-Pico USB cables.

I think it's worth a try, just watch for strange behavior like signals switching channels.

I've purchased cables from this website several times and their angled cables have worked fine with my Picoscope 4423.  https://www.angledcables.com/

Greetings,

I purchased, and having been using the cable pictured by Trevor above with no issues on a 4425 and a 4425a.

For me, on a multiple different laptops it is working just fine.

Thank you Brian.  I was trying to solve an issue of how my laptop is mounted above my box.  What I believe I should do is buy another roll cart and use my other laptop.  Then I won't have a need for a longer cable or any odd angles.
