Heads Up
Jan 15th, 2019 at 12:54pm

We are having to make some security enhancements to our site and this requires that our entire web site, including the forums, be moved to an entirely new server with a current version OS.

What this means is that, at some point very soon, we will have to lock down the forums into maintenance mode before the process begins and until it is complete.

Our web site will also be down for an unknown time frame during the transfer process.

We have been working on getting the forums software tweaked and ready to live on the new server with the new OS and Perl version so that downtime will be minimized and the forums should come back up OK after the move.  This process is now complete so we are ready for the move.

There will surely be a few glitches but fingers crossed.   Smiley

This server migration has been scheduled for tonight.

The forums will be shut down into maintenance mode between 9 and 10 PM Pacific time.  They will remain locked down until the process is compete.  This is necessary so that forums content is static and can come back up on the new server as it was on the old.

IF...  all goes well, they should return tomorrow sometime.

The rest of the site will be functional until tomorrow but may be down for a time while things get redirected to the new server.

Thank you for your patience during this process.

Scheduled maintenance is preferable to unscheduled maintenance eh?

We were locked down for 12 hours while this migration took place.

Looks like the forums are working OK in the new environment.   Wink

Please let me know if run into any issues.

So...  Looks like step two is complete.

Some web site issues to resolve but after that is all ironed out then step three....

KaBoOm ?

I know the pains. My Forum went through 3 major software changes and 3 servers before it settled down.

I hope not.  The steps:

1.  Forums coding tweaks to make them compatible with the next steps.  (complete)

2.  The move to a new server with updated OS and software.  (complete)

3.  What the previous steps lay the groundwork for...  SSL cert which changes us from http to https.

Although there is no practical 'need' for this, everything is going this way and those that don't are being punished by search engines and browser warnings about insecure site that scare people away.  It's creating a problem where none exists, but we have to play along...

It's a lot of work and expense though.   Roll Eyes

Hey Tom,
Sorry about your website issues. I feel for ya.
I am experiencing an issue that may be connected? Every time I click on a psd file it brings up gibberish. Just a bunch of random letters and symbols. Something wrong on my end?

Thanks,
  Tim

That's odd.  I cannot duplicate that.  Choosing a psdata attachment brings up the open or save file dialog.

What browsers are you using?  Firefox here.

Good morning Tom!
I just tried opening a psdata file in the thread about the K110 clamps on a/f sensors and had the same issue.

No problem here with any of the files in that thread.

Have you tried a right click and save link as?

What browser are you using?

I had to go on the interporn to find out haw to find out what browser I am using! Turns out it's internet explorer 11.

I will try to right click the file and see if it opens, and get back to you.

Hi Tom!

So I right clicked on it and tried open in new tab. I got another tab with gibberish.

I then tried save target and put it in my documents. Opening it from there also resulted in a page of gibberish.

I have confirmed this with IE 11.

Seems there is no way to get the file.

I will look into this.  Thanks for letting me know.

In the meantime, I would recommend using another browser such as Firefox.  It's a better browser anyway.

If folks are having this issue with another browser other than IE, please let me know.

Hi - I'm the YaBB person. Since I know what got changed in the software, I also know that nothing related to downloads got updated. (And any breakages would be also be seen in FireFox and Chrome.)

Has anyone using MSIE11 tried to use File->Save As to save the gibberished file to see if it's valid data when saved to your HD?

If not, then your only real recourse is to use FireFox or Chrome. (Sorry Win7 people, but them's the facts. Microsoft broke MSIE11.  Sad )
