Mikey,

Are you sure that's a 4223?  Looks like a 4224.

Should be on a tag on the back or you can see the model under Help/About in the software when it is attached.

Thank You Mr. Roberts,
Yes it is a 4224 on the box.  Are there any differences that you are aware of so that I may revise the Classified listing.  Thank You for the heads up.

According to Picoauto, the difference is this will not have the Automotive Software CD in the box.  However the Software is available for download free at their website. Hardware is excatly the same between the two.

I'm confused..I thought the the 2 and 4 channel 4000 series scopes both  begin with 4 and end with 23   ...and the 2nd digit was the number of channels? So..why wouldn't it be a 4223 like it shows in the picture? Huh

Mikey,

The 4224 is the test and measurement scope, not the automotive one.  It will not work with the automotive software.

I just noticed that it didn't say Automotive on the scope case.  But I have seen them with the wrong cases on them before....

Thank You Mr. Roberts for the heads up.  Since I have each unit here I have placed the 4223 Scope up for sale if any one is intrested.  Unlike the other one it is used and not new.   Thanks again Mr. Roberts for your help and good eye on this.

You are right Seans.  I have found that once you install the Pico Automotive Software; you simply remove the OEM.dll file and any scope model will work with the software just fine.  I'm currently using the 4224 scope that's labeled oscilloscope with the Automotive Software with no problems.

You are a lucky guy.  A ground loop can be fatal.  Only the automotive scopes have thermal fuse protection.

Sure...short version:

Because the scope grounds are common (connected together inside the scope) you can create ground loops with your channel grounds that can pass current from one ground point to another, ground out a sensor, etc.  This why any and all grounds should be placed on a common point, preferably bat neg.

Should you place one channel ground on a voltage source and another on a ground point a potentially large current will flow through the scope.  Don't laugh.  It happens more often than you think.  The automotive scopes have resetting thermal fuses to protect the scope from damage should this occur.  The test and measurement versions do not and you only make that mistake once and the special smoke comes out.   Smiley
