I hail from a tiny island in the Caribbean. As far as am aware only tech using a scope. Doing my absolute best not to be a parts changer

Welcome. If you are the only one on the island using a scope you are about to get all the cars that no one else is able to fix. You will soon get the reputation of fixing the unfixable. The funny thing is that most of the problems are not that difficult to figure out.
