Title: 90 deg USB Cable Post by BMW Scott on Mar 31st, 2022 at 2:16am
I know our scopes work best with the blue USB cable that was supplied. I am wanting to use a USB cable that has a 90 deg angle to go into my laptop. Is there anything specific I can look for in a USB cable that will give me a good idea if it will work?
If I recall, the blue cable had larger contact pads in the ports to make a better connection? Is that correct? Are there any other specs I should look for in a cable? Has anyone had any luck with finding quality cables that didn't have any issues? I know the USB cable has been talked about many times, and I couldn't seem to find any results that mentioned alternatives. |

The usual statements apply here. Brand, reviews, seller return policy. If you recognize the brand, and you're buying from a reputable place and the reviews are good you are on the right track. BMW Scott wrote on Mar 31st, 2022 at 2:16am:
Yes, this was done to combat low quality USB ports used by some PC manufacturers at the time. BMW Scott wrote on Mar 31st, 2022 at 2:16am:
USB 3.0 SS (Super speed) Borrowed from Monoprice "This cable features a USB 3.0 Type-C™ connector on one end and a USB 3.0 Type-B connector on the other end. The USB 3.0 Type-B connector differs from the traditional USB 2.0 Type-B connector in that it has 5 additional pins, which carry SuperSpeed data." BMW Scott wrote on Mar 31st, 2022 at 2:16am:
I have this cable from Monoprice and it seems to work just fine. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=38613 I also have this cable i sourced from Amazon. It also works just fine. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SR71Q67/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 |

I'm still using the 4423, so I'll have to stick to a USB 2.0 cable. Well, a USB 3.0 cable may work, just not a type b. Thanks for the advice! |

Some 4423 users have had trouble with non-Pico USB cables. I think it's worth a try, just watch for strange behavior like signals switching channels. |

I've purchased cables from this website several times and their angled cables have worked fine with my Picoscope 4423. https://www.angledcables.com/

Thank you Brian. I was trying to solve an issue of how my laptop is mounted above my box. What I believe I should do is buy another roll cart and use my other laptop. Then I won't have a need for a longer cable or any odd angles. |
