Title: Nicholson Pulse Sensor
Post by Seany Mac on Feb 6th, 2020 at 3:00pm
Autonerdz is now offering the Nicholson Pulse Sensor in our store!
https://www.autonerdz.com/nicholsonsensor.html

This is a Dual Pulse Sensor Kit. It comes with (2) Nicholson Pulse Sensors, (2) 5m BNC to BNC Cables, (6) barbed fittings (3 different sizes, one for each sensor), (2) Foster quick couplers so you can use your WPS accessories, and a carry case!

We also have a protective cloth boot with a grommet that will help cushion vibration and allows you to hang the sensor. You can see the boot at the bottom of the page I linked.

A BIG thank you to Michael Nicholson for working with us and allowing Autonerdz to supply these awesome sensors!

Do you still supply the FLS?

We no longer supply the FLS. We have been unable to obtain them from the manufacturer for approx. 6 months or so.

The Nicholson Sensor is every bit as capable as the FLS, and is manufactured about 30 minutes from the Autonerdz office.

First image, CH A is the FLS, CH C is the Nicholson Sensor.
2nd image, CH C is scaled to x3, and is identical to the FLS.

So I suppose FLS is failing. Am I correct?

Looks like a lot of techs on another forum have good things to say about the Nicholson sensors. Your kit is a heck of a good price compared to FirstLook, and there are two senosrs in the kit. This is on my tool wish list now (along with a lot of other tools)  ;D

what happened ..

Here is the story...

As with Pico automotive, we were also on the ground floor introducing the FLS from Senx.  In fact, I acted as a marketing consultant before it was released and even shared with them uses for the FLS that they were not aware of.

So, we had a long relationship with Fred and John at Senx for many years.

As you know we are very loyal to our customers and vendors alike.  We don't sell Chinese clones of PicoScope like some other vendors do, or any other scopes.

So what happened with Senx is that over six months ago, we became unable to communicate with anyone at Senx.

Open orders were unfulfilled.

A partial shipment we received was missing components.

Multiple emails were not responded to.

No one answered the phone.

Multiple messages were not returned.

To this day, not one phone call from them in over six months.

Google maps showed their location permanently closed.

Their web site was infected with malware and redirected to some shoe store.

In view of the above facts, we came to the logical conclusion that Senx was no longer in business and it was time to introduce a new and different product to fill that hole in our web store with the permanent out of stock message.

After working with the creator of the Nicholson Delta Pressure Sensor and putting it through the paces, we concluded that this was a great product and began offering them.

Very recently, we have found that Senx is actually still in business.

Not wanting to step on their toes, we stopped offering the Nicholson Sensor.

We still have no plans to offer the FLS again at this time.  We still cannot obtain them because no one at Senx responds to us.

When you stop taking care of the customer, they stop bugging you.  We stopped bugging them.

You can probably still get the Nicholson Sensor, just not from us.

It is a shame to not have an option for absolute pressure testing available from your site anymore. Are ya'll planning on selling either of these options or some other variant in the near future?

It is a sad thing.  But no.  No plans currently to get into offering any of these.  Unfortunate that Senx dropped the ball or we would still be offering the FLS...

Hi....I made some home form ones genuine McGyver stuff I arrived at the resolution the actual development of the sensor immensely affects the sign, it is touchy to the degree I don't figure two indistinguishable sensors from a similar maker will give the precisely same waveform. In the end I purchased a Ditex sensor however haven't utilized it much.

I know I’m a little late seeing this but not wanting to step on their toes? I’d say that they already stomped on your feet. They ghosted you, put you in a bad spot with customers, and have never responded. Sell the Nicholson sensor, let  someone who actually cares about their product make some money, and have something to offer your customers.

I hear you.  Not my call anymore but there were also patent issues that I did not want to get involved with.  The Senx behavior is still a complete mystery.  We were good customers of theirs for decades.  They are still selling them to other vendors.  Still bothers me that I don't know why this happened.  I can conjure up some conspiracy theories though...   ::)

Tom, Surely that patent has now expired, n ot that it should have had a patent on it anyway given its principle

Trevor, There is an old adage:  "Never put your mouth in gear until you start your brain"

I know that as a loyal subject of Autonerdz that I would not fail to start the brain.

Now lets look at Trade Marks....

That is another thing.... a trademark however needs to be maintained, but for long as it is maintained you have trademark protection.

Thus you cannot protect the idea of innovation forever or perpetually but you can given renewal protect what you call it.

But we already have a name that we can trademark dont we...."Brandon Look Sensor"  "BLS"

What about "NBS"........"No bullshit Sensor"

Logic, you confuse me.

Regardless, the trademarks and patents are live. I have no idea how certain entities are able to produce the equipment they do without being litigated. The market is flooded with knockoffs and copycats. I don't think this is an accessory I want to be involved in.

Interestingly enough SenX still lists us as a distributor but refuses to return the calls I made in 2020/21.

Various reasons come to mind, all leading to absence of prosecution.  Some of these reasons being the inpossibility to enforce rules/law in foreign places, lack of public interest/lack of manpower to enforce the law, economic interests/corruption, cultural differences and so on.

While the last decades have been characterized by reproaches to "the Chinese" to infringe copyrights in a mayor scale almost on anything little is known about that, from a different point of view, it's seen almost as a veneration: a really good thing is worth copying it. This has been done through centuries.

Fairly certain you can't get a Nicholson anymore.

If you read this thread thoroughly I am sure you will understand why.

I was afraid of that.  I just cannot get myself to spend the money on a first look when we have the BLS and others our there have them at a fraction of the cost.  Thanks for the response.
