Anthony,

Nice basic outlined resume :)

Ever thought about coming to America and working with us Yanks ;)

You would make a good asset to a repair shop here with your skills and experience :)

We can offer you four seasonal changes. Lots of snow at times. Tornado's and hurricanes and much much more [smiley=woohoo.gif]

I have thought about it a fair amount. The main issue is jumping through the hoops for a green card.

Man, I can relate to that, It's been crazy here for the past 4 mos.     ( and not in a good way) with no sign of relief in sight. I think 2015 is going to bring change for me also.

Good luck, keep us posted  -Mike

If you need a refrence Anthony let me know, I'll tell any prospective employers their nuts if they don't hire you. :)  If you decide to come to the states I have contacts that could help you find a job.  Let me know. :)

I'm sure if there's any Nerdz up in the Brizzy area, they would hire you asap.

My offer still stands if you want to move Sydney.

Hey Lamby,
do you have affiliation with the IAME or any other group that has a monthly publication?

I think you'll have good luck with a ad in an Australian publication or website.

So what is your next step in your work cycle? What direction would you like to go? How old are you?

Interested in Melbourne at all?

Andy

I have IAME membership. I am signing up to Tat.
I'll have a look into running some Ads.

I have been what you called shoved to the side where I am at the moment and just spinning filters and fitting tyres. Haven't done any real work for about 2 months.

Mainly just want to get out of this rut.

Mainly chasing something challenging.

Here is another possibility Anthony, I know this isn't as secure as a regular 9 to 5 job, but have you considered going in to business for yourself? Why not try to start something up part time, while your still working full time and build up a customer base for the work you like to do.  I don't know how the rules are for doing that over there but I think it would be something to look into.   :)

I have thought about it for a while, I do lack a general knowledge and experience of other than 1 make.

As a boss looking for employees, experience in one model doesn't bother me, however is is also advantageous as we work on quite a lot of toyota's.  What I am looking for and im sure every other employer is, is some one who is passionate, willing to learn, shows up every day and is not a smart arse.  Everything else can get taught. You also seem to be a tradesman who is constantly willing to learn.

This is how I have taken on most employees as well as my 2 apprentices I have now.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks Andy, If I am down your way I'll drop in a and say hello.

Thank you everyone.

I had a few interviews this week.

One place was what I would say was a joke.

One of the other ones was a pretty well equipped shop family owned shop and was cleaner than the dealer I am at now.

Anthony: Just how far north of Brisbane are you willing to travel? The boss lady here would love to hire another good tech, the commute would be a gold plated cast iron B!tch though, plus it's butt snapping cold up here, -31c a couple nights ago, -28c tonight.
Best of luck, hopefully you find some closer to home work.
-Ward-

P.S. On the outside chance you wanna move and freeze the bollocks off let me know.

You ever wanted to work on Transit Buses and Ford e350s and 450s?  Power Strokes?  We also have some dodge caravans.  We also need Techs too.  We have had quite a few people change postions thus creating tech vacancies.  Know it's a stretch for you Anthony, but I think you would have no problem catching on here, plus I'd be there to help you get accustomed to things.  If your interested let me know and I will seriously talk to my boss and put a good word in for you.  Just thought I would throw that out there. :)

Americans are affectionately know here as "Yanks" and Canadians are sometimes referred to "snap-frozen Yanks"  ;D

Mike, the green card is a seriously hard thing to get hold of, I looked into it some years back.

A mate of mine that specialized in Detroit diesel engines actually went and had a holiday/job interview in the US .
He got the job no worries at all, it was the months of correspondence that went back and forwards.
He actually gave up in the end.

It might be different now that our two countries have a free trade agreement...

It is, I think it is 12 to 18 months at the earliest to jump through the hoops with no guarantees.

Not sure, was going to stop by at some stage and see a few buss fleets to see if they have any apprenticeships for heavy vehicles.

Waiting to see if I hear anything back from Tesla.

Just looking around, hard to find professional workshops that are want to invest in training and tooling is proving the hardest part.

Well with Transit it is sometimes hit and miss.  Where I work our tooling in my opinion is pretty good and we training every time we get new buses, but hopefully we will be implementing more in house training in the future.  Plus I agree you want to find a good learning and training enviroment where the people are supportive.  Maybe some of the other Aussies on here can help you out. :)

I'm from a family run workshop down in Browns Plains (Southside Brisbane). We see ourselves as an innovative progressive workshop and certainly believe in investing in technology and training. We don't particularly have a vacancy at the moment (1 mechanic each on 4 hoists and mum and dad in the office), but 1 guy hired last year has had a couple warnings and isn't particularly working/showing enthusiasm up to our expectations if you know what I mean.

Would you consider southside? I could at least run your resume past my parents and have a discussion. Or if your willing to go southside I could at least keep my ear out for other workshops in the area.

Anyway, good luck with it all, you sound like a really good asset and I think any employee is lucky to have someone enthusiastic enough about the industry to be an autonerdz member etc.

See you around at a training night etc. maybe

I'm currently working at Woolloongabba which is about 45 mins to an 1 hour commute on a motorbike (with lane filtering) from home in peak traffic, Browns plains is a bit to far for me :(.

No problem, understandable if you live a bit too far away just thought I'd check. You work in the Gabba? I live there and yeah its about 25 mins each way down to Browns Plains. Small world.

Well let me know if you end up moving house etc. All the best.
