Title: Race Car Running Compression
Post by Lee Hearnden on Nov 5th, 2013 at 4:10pm
Hi All

Over in the UK we have been working with Ridgeback Automotive Engineering doing some Engine Analysis using the WPS500X so that they can do further engine tuning and identify through Running Compression if the mechanical changes offer better performance in relation to enhancing combustion.

We will be writing a small case study with our initial results and findings but for now we thought you may like to look at the 'little monster' in action doing a WOT Running Compression Waveform.

If you like our Facebook page it will keep you up to date with what we are doing and as soon as we publish our case study we will announce on Facebook anyway. Its only a short video but it sounds pretty awesome.

Kind Regards

Lee  :)

Why does it sound like a lifter is hammering?

Due to the nature of the vehicle it has a Race Prepared Gearbox which unlike a conventional gearbox has straight cut gears oppose to helical cut gears. As it has idler gears in constant mesh what you can hear is actually the gears 'chattering'.

When I publish the case study I will make files downloadable like I did with the running compression technical article we did but they show what we would assume is irregularities which are actually correct for this type of engine so thought it best that the case study came first.

Kind Regards

It will be interesting to see the case study once you are done.
