We've had requests for Autonerdz uniform patches, we instead decided to offer a Lab Scope Diagnostics certification program.

This is for PicoScope users only, but you do not need to be an Autonerdz customer.

A couple steps towards certification:

PicoScope captures you gathered during a real world diagnostic situation along with a short explanation of your diagnostic process.

We will provide a written test covering basic electrical fundamentals up to advanced scope use. This test may require research and scope operation to complete. The idea is not to only test ones skill and knowledge, but to also be a learning experience. We want to make sure anyone certified really knows what they're doing. A test score minimum of 85% is required for certification, we will send the test back to you if 85% is not achieved.

Upon completion you will receive 7 patches along with a nice printed paper certification.

There will be a $35.00 charge, this includes materials and postage.

Just one LiL Question that I do believe will come up later.  Most of us in  Carrier Apparel (Uniforms) have 11 sets, so how much per patch after the certification process is complete?

Just in case I would happen to get lucky, or copy off of Rod, Preston, Mick, etc. the list goes on. ;D

I doubt you will need any luck RT.  Good question on additional patches by the way.

Some are multiple choice like an ASE test where you choose the least incorrect answer from the choices below.   ;)  Others require a written answer.

I don't know, I'm sure it would not break the bank.  Good question though.  This is a work in progress...

I’ll check our cost on the patches Monday.

I chose seven because I always had 5 uniforms and 2 jackets, thought that was standard.

We are still working in the answer key.  I doubt anyone would find this test easy.  I think it's hard and I wrote some of the questions..... [smiley=banghead.gif]

This is not your typical ASE certification.  We really wanted this to mean something more.

But this is not a test with a time limit and you are free to experiment and research to get to your best answer.  I feel, if you can pass this test, you have what it takes to wear the patch with pride.  Even if you are not yet a lab scope 'expert' you will demonstrate that you know how to find answers and get there.  After all, it's a journey.

This certification is not window dressing.  You will earn it.

Very excited about this certification, although I know I'm not there yet, it is definitely an even more motivation to master the LSD Technique. [smiley=thumbsup2.gif]

I managed to sneak 3 because the class wasn't full  8-)

When I felt I had earnt them I was going to stitch them onto my pocket flap on my trousers.

I do not know how/when I would have self certified my self. I have looked at the patches a few times and it seems arrogant to think I have even scratched the surface of LSD.

I am going give myself the patch and sew it on to my pocket for work tomorrow  :)

Part Time? :D I can see where a strictly "Diagnostic Tech." might pull that off, but a goodly share are in the trench more than not so we have Five sets on the Laundry Truck, Five hangin at home, and one on our back that after 30 minutes is hangin like a grimy Potato Sack.  Feelin Sorry for me yet? ;D I don't, but some do rent Jackets, so they would probably opt for (As Will I) buying an additional 7 (14 total) to have 3 for Jackets, Hoodies, etc.  I think it's a great idear ya'll have.

A couple of concerns have come to our attention here so I will share them:

The purpose of the whole thing is to expand your horizons and dig deeper.  The capture data file tells us a LOT about the level the tech has achieved.

Will there be a certificate availalbe as well?  I usually prefer not to have labels on the uniforms but I do like the certificates.

well i'm in. i'm not big into patches or certificates but will take them if i earn it.  ;D anything that will help me learn and increase my knowledge i want to be part of. i think this is a great thing.

I heard that some were having trouble saving the test to their PC, you may want to save you answers in notepad or word while we sort this out.

Brian JIC it matters I'm using XP Pro IE 8 and have not yet had a problem saving, recalling or anything out of the norm. Hope this helps you help others.

It was a good challenge to do this test. I’m not that clever, so it took me some time to answer the questions, but I had fun with it.  :)

We don't plan on ending the certification program.

You're welcome to get started with the process, take all the time you need.

I really enjoyed taking the test and in the process learned quite a bit more about the Picoscope just by doing some of the research. Should be receiving my certificate and patches shortly and will display them proudly!

Hey Tom and Brian, glad to see that you have a cert program. It made me think about a study guide, or even better yet a scope book. I have 2 scope books, 1 from chex charts and Steve McAfee's scope book, but it would be awesome if you guys offered one, the content could be far beyond that of the others as you could incorporate the picogroup knowledge base into it, and books are easier to skim through than videos. Have you guys ever considered publishing something? I would definitely buy one! :D

Maybe it could be a collective effort from the picogroup, someone creates a board panel who establishes the topics and content, submissions from the autonerdz community (there's tons of good visuals on this site with graphics already added), and then many rounds of rough drafts, editing and proofing. Just a thought, I understand how in-depth a project like this can be, I started to write a smog study guide after I took the exam because i didn't like what was available, but have yet to find the time to finish it, although I've made it approx. 40 pages in. Chew it over, I'm sure members here would be happy to help, myself included, I'm pretty decent with the word processing programs (word / publisher)/

It's hard to make a book members only though....

I would not want to compromise the Picogroup content.

Got my certification in the mail today.

At first the idea of asking to be tested just so I could see how I rate felt gimmicky. Now, after having completed the test I can confidently say it forced me to learn some things I didn't know I needed to learn. The test is open book with diagrams and essays and some multiple guess questions. And because of this,  the point is not to sit down and rifle through the questions like ASE. The point is to make you think. To use the resources available to you to learn the answers to the questions you don't know. To use your scope and come up with answers to questions that you never considered before.

So if you like challenges, want to learn, and/or need an ego reality check, ask to be tested and see how you do.
