Title: Error: Invalid ID
Post by Tom Roberts on Dec 4th, 2007 at 11:13am
If you are trying to register here or do other things, like the forgotten password function on the forums, you may get an invalid ID error.

This is caused by how hyperlinks are handled by your email program.  The system is not broken.

When you do certain things like validate your membership or request a lost password, the system send you an email with a coded validation link to follow.  This link is rather long and may be split by a line break by your email program.  This may result in the part after the line break not being hyperlinked with the rest of the coded link.  The result is that the link is broken and only a portion of it is hyperlinked.  So, when you click on it the partial link is invalid.

The solution is to look carefully at the link to see if this has happened and copy and paste the link back together in your browser location bar to make it whole again.

Pretty simple really but it's not always obvious and we have had a few users and new registrants having difficulty with this issue.  Not all email programs handle hyperlinks the same way.

Once you have used the activation code to validate your registration, it is no longer valid.  Additional activations will get the invalid ID response.  Once you have activated, just wait for an administrator to approve your application.  Once approved, you will get another email with your password.
