Title: Hello From Indiana Post by Mark Cergizan on Dec 9th, 2015 at 8:02pm
Hello everyone, Mark from Indiana here. I thought I'd stop by and introduce myself while I'm waiting on my new kit to arrive. I ordered it today, after lots of research and an interesting conversation over on iATN. I'm really looking forward to participating on this forum, and have already been welcomed by some fellow members before I even made my first post! I love a challenge, and vehicles are surely becoming more and more challenging. I am intrigued by how much more definitively systems can be diagnosed using a scope and I am going to invest all of the time necessary to be able to say "I don't know how I got along for so long without one". Thanks for having me and I look forward to interacting with everyone!

Hi Mark!
Welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to become a Nerd. Lots of learning here at all level's. As suggested by Sam, when you have time review the tutorial's. It will help you get prepared. Also, if you have any questions before your scope arrives feel free to ask and take the time to browse through the forum :) Bob |

Thanks Guys! I spent a few hours last night watching tutorials. I'm sure this will be covered in a future video, but my only question right now is concerning the attenuator. Will I need this only when testing primary ignition and injectors?

Hi Mark, the attenuators should be used anytime the voltage "might" exceed the scopes maximum input, mostly primary ignition or an injector that has an excessive kick, when in doubt, use the attenuators.
It is best to post questions in the Pico Group area, lots more eyes looking in that area as opposed to the introduction area ;) |

As Jamey stated, the Picogroup section is where we provide Picoscope assistance. Just a suggestion for all you Picogroup members... You all have access to the Picogroup boards on the forums. If you really want the best assistance from other members, post there. The public areas of the boards have a wider audience, but you will not get the same level of assistance there. What section you post to depends on what you want from your thread. If you want to share something with the world, post in the public areas. If you want help with something, especially PicoScope assistance, post in the Picogroup areas. PicoScope assistance is not provided in the public boards. The attenuator question is an important one and Jamey covered that too. In your case, the 4425 has a 200V input maximum. So, coil primaries are going to be the main thing that is going to exceed that. If you have doubts about the voltage, use an attenuator. You can always take it off. That being said, the 4425 is the toughest scope Pico has released to date. We actually tried to destroy a prototype unit here doing all kinds of things to it that should never be done. We were unsuccessful. 8-) Welcome Mark. I am glad you were able to sift out the BS in that other discussion. So, now take a drink. [smiley=koolaid2.gif] Also be sure to read the important topics on this board to help you get started here with the forums: http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=sitefaq |

Hello Mark!
Welcome aboard! There is an amazing amount of information to dig through here - have fun and feel free to ask questions, there is (almost) always somebody that has "been there, seen that" and will relate their findings. Have fun with the new tool, and use it as much as you can. If you only break it out every so often for a broken car you won't know if the pattern you get is good or bad with out with out a lot of digging around. -Ward- |

Welcome to the group Mark. I think you'll soon realize you made a good choice purchasing your scope from Autonerdz if you haven't already.
Enjoy the ride Spence |

Welcome Mark, from a fellow Hoosier. I saw the iATN thread. Entertaining. There is so much to learn here from some very sharp people. Whatever extra the cost is to purchase from here, the value far exceeds it. -Andy
