Title: should I unplug scope after using? Post by Dan W. on Mar 9th, 2015 at 8:19pm
Hi, just got my 4425 last week and really like it. One thing I am curious about is should I keep disconnecting the unit when not in use and overnight or can I just leave it plugged in all the time? I don't normally shut down my laptop I just close the lid when not using it. I don't feel any heat being generated in the pico and was hoping to just leave it connected and at the ready to be used when needed. Thanks.

Just keep using it 24/7 and you won't run in to this issue ;). But seriously, you could leave it plugged in probably, but the software is going to be whacked out when you reopen the lid, if the program was open and running at the time you put it to sleep.

Yes I have experienced it needing to rediscover itself when I wake it up. seems like it hasn't been a problem, just takes a minute or so. I like the idea of keeping it at the ready, I will be more inclined to use it rather than if I had to get it out and launch it every time.

Title: Re: should I unplug scope after using? Post by Tom Roberts on Mar 10th, 2015 at 8:37am Dan, Since you are a Picogroup member, I recommend you post any PicoScope questions you have in the Picogroup area boards. We don't provide the same level of assistance in the public boards. Some PCs have issues with USB devices on wake up. You can leave the Pico plugged in all the time the PC is active with no problems and have PicoScope open. I have My PC set to never sleep unless I close the lid. When you do put it down for a nap, I recommend you close PicoScope and unplug the scope. After all, it only takes 15 seconds to plug it back in and get PicoScope up and running again. |
