Title: Pico Overlays How Too? Post by Abndanger on Mar 16th, 2014 at 1:42pm
Hello Guys
Been using my Pico here for about 4 years. Still a novice but really starting to get into it in more indepth scoping. I really enjoy the tool and I have learned a lot. I really want to broaden my horizons. What I really would like to do is to learn how to write, show arrows and pointers on a captured screen to help educate myself more and to possibly help others down the road. Does anyone know the software needed and a tutorial as to how to use it. Take it easy on me. Remember I am Green here...lol :D Bob |

I am also Green :) If any vets have a significantly easier way, or a different option for doing this, please chime in.
Anyway, It sounds like you know how to capture a screen. Here are some links that might help with adding the arrows and text. Software you could use: http://www.irfanview.com/ This is a free photo editor that I've seen the vets on here recommend. Technically any image editing program will work, so if you like Paint or program X, and are proficient with it, you could use that program instead. Here's a link to a youtube video on adding text using Irfanview, and there are other tutorials linked there also that may help you learn how to use image editing software. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=irfanview&sm=3 Essentially doing a "mark up" (overlaying text and arrows) is just opening a file of a screen capture in any image editing program, and drawing all over it. In pico, display the screen you want to draw on, and then: Click Edit Click Copy Entire Window as Image Then open whatever image editor you choose, (Irfanview, Paint, or whatever) Within the image editor program (Irfan or Paint, etc), find a menu option or button called "Paste", or "Paste from Clipboard" and click it, and your screen capture should come into the editor, where you can draw all over it. :) Once you are done editing, you just save the file with a new name, in .jpg format, in a folder you'll remember, and you can attach it to a post here for all to see. Hopefully this helps, it looks like a lot, so I hope it counts as "taking it easy on you" ... I'm not sure what you computer background is....if you get stuck, post back. PS.. use the image editor to resize the file to 1024x768 (just hunt around for a menu item called resize) |

Title: Re: Pico Overlays How Too? Post by Tom Roberts on Mar 16th, 2014 at 9:29pm Wow, that's an old one Mick.... Still useful though. Might have to make a new one that shows the circles and arrows and such.. Bob, If you need more specific PicoScope help like this, post in the PicoScope Help section.... Rod Maher, our resident software genius, has also provided another cool program: http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1387011114 |

Thanks Kael, Mick & Tom!
I am going to try and play with it today to get a feel for how the programs work. I did view the tutorial which Tom made and Mick provided a link for. It is a step back in time but everything always starts out with the basic's :D |
