Title: Re: Dr. TOM is the Pico 2104 useful on autos? Post by Tom Roberts on Apr 26th, 2010 at 8:30am Jake, We do have a couple of 2105 in stock...but that's just for special request by the Toyota T-10 trainers. Seems that Toyota had decided this was a good tool for automotive. Unfortunately, they didn't consult us. ::) In my opinion, these pen scopes are not suitable in automotive use for many reasons: 20v max input with no way to attach the attenuators...they would likely blow up looking at anything with a significant inductive kick. No way to attach other accessories like pressure transducers, current probes, etc. Having only one channel, they are useless for essential action/reaction testing. They will not work with the automotive softwares...PicoScope or Pico Diagnostics. They are only 8bit The minimum voltage range is +- 100mv Small 24k record length In streaming mode max 65k record length and sample rate limited to 1kHz. Because they are not suitable for automotive use, we do not support them. You could use this in a very limited way looking at low voltage signals one at a time..but why? Yes, they are very inexpensive but you are not getting much either. See...we even provide an honest objective opinion based on the facts when it comes to something Pico Technology offers. ;) These would be great little scopes in a basic lab environment but when it comes to automotive...forget about it. |
