Title: quality of trace / interferance Post by smh on Sep 24th, 2008 at 1:39pm
Hello wise scope users.
I have had a pico for a short while but am unsure of the quality of the traces. I have attached an example below. It is a capture of a lambda selected from the "automotive" menu. The lead is attached to the signal wire (red) and component ground (black). It is the same if the ground lead is connected to the battery ground. My question is, is this the quality I should expect from the pico when checking lambda sensors? Kind Regards smh ![]() |

check the propeties box on the right and see what your sample rate is
that will answer your question Mick |

smh,
When you are sampling that high, yes. May I ask why you are scoping O2 sensors? |

If you do want to look at O2 activity, I'd use a chart recorder or an employed bit filter. Carry this over to the PicoScope user's special section if you are a member and we'll discuss this futher.

I see what you mean about the sample rate. However I am not sure why it is so high. I select the measurement from the "automotive" menu. I have not changed any settings. Am I overlooking a setting or should I not go with the preset measurements. I have been using the presets as I am still learning about advanced scopes. Carl I am not a member. I am scoping lambda sensors purley to check functionality. Regards smh |

I don’t use the presets. You should as a beginner to get you in the ball park, but to get better results you need to experiment with your settings a little and watch what happens. Too much sample rate on an o2 sensor will show lots of noise but I can work with that some cant. How about signing up with Tom for a while it will be too your benefit This is what a lot of samples would reveal, there are ways of cleaning this up but for me it’s ok. Mick ![]() |

thank you for taking the time to reply. I will use my own settings and experiment some more. thanks again smh |
