Comparing

DSO Sample Rate

Performance

Sorry, this movie is no longer offered separately but the new edition is available on the Nerd I CD.

There are a huge number of different scope equipment choices out there.  There is a lot of hype, lack of answers, and just plain dis-information out there about sample rate performance.  Since DSOs reconstruct signals from individual voltage samples in time, the rate of the sample collection is the most important factor when choosing an instrument.  All the cool features that we want don’t mean a thing, if the instrument can’t perform when it comes to sample rate.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could just sit down with a calculator and compare one instrument sample rate performance with another before you waste your time looking at it, or worse, waste your money on something that can’t perform to your satisfaction?  Would you like to be able to calculate the sample rate limits of the scope you are now using, so you can avoid costly errors that result from using the instrument beyond it’s limits?  Well, you can.

By using DSO operating principles and two specifications, you can apply some simple math and calculate DSO true sample rate at any given time base, using one channel.  With this knowledge, you can effectively compare one instrument to another, using facts and math instead of the manufacturer’s hype.  You will save time, avoid frustration, and save money.

This 50 minute Flash presentation will give you the understanding and the tools to do just that.    We also include a Java DSO Sample Rate Calculator for the math challenged. J

The Flash player needed to watch the movie is probably already on your PC.  If not, you can get the free player by clicking on the button below:

A minimum of 1024x768 screen resolution is required for best viewing.  Also, it helps to change your browser to full screen mode so you can see the controls.  The movie is 800x600 but the window with the pause, play and stop buttons, etc. makes it a little larger.

This production follows the Autonerdz tradition of quality and informative training.  The subject of this movie is covered in Nerd I of the Nerd Series.  Many of you have expressed a desire to attend Autonerdz Training but have not had the opportunity.  Many of you have asked about video training and web classes.  Well, here is the first generation of Autonerdz web based training.  Thank you for supporting the Autonerdz site.  J
