In Cylinder Pressure Testing

Hello. I would like to take a known good running in cylinder compression waveform for my database. The problem is my injectors are covered by the manifold so I can't disconnect it. My question is can I run it just enough to get a capture without flooding the cylinders?

Yes you can but limit it to running just enough till you get a steady reading.  Don't do it multiple times.  You will fill the crankcase with fuel.  Plus when your done testing check your oil and make sure it is not diluted from fuel.  If it is change your oil. Smiley  Don't forget to disable spark for that cylinder too. Smiley

He would need to have a spark tester installed as to keep stray voltage away from the pressure transducer and if he has secondary leads it would be nice to see where the spark is occurring while testing Wink

For the time being I decided to take in cylinder pressure on my wife's car. It's a 2014 Elantra 1.8L. I'll post the snapshot later. For now lets say I dodged my wife's wrath. The adapter fitting that threaded to the compression hose was stuck in the spark plug hole! I tried a 17mm socket but the socket wall was to thick. My brother in-law is a mechanic so he came by and removed the fitting. Whew!!!

What make of pressure transducer are you using?

Thank you for replying back to me.

Will this custom unit calibrate to atmospheric pressure and form a line scaled to zero on your scope?

On the Pico when it's unfiltered it looks like its on 0. Zoomed in and filtered though it's about 1.5 above 0

That sounds like a very noisy pattern.

You will not be able to accurately measure any pressures if you don't know were zero is. Wink

What part of the world do you live in?

Thanks. Can't compare the accuracy of yours. I would love to get the WPS but for what I do for family and friends and doing it for free, for it's price doesn't justify it. BTW I'm from New York.
