Zero line Jumps up and down during ramp test
Sep 23rd, 2016 at 6:32pm

I just got a picoscope 4425 and am new at it. Could you tell me why my "zero" (or baseline) jumps up and down during my coil current ramp test while engine is running. The ramps are fine, but just the zero line (with ramps on it) are jumping up and down. I am pretty sure I had the trigger in there...
TA018 pico amps both brand new...

I can only imagine how frustrated you are right now. If only you had done your homework before purchasing the Pico 4425 scope. In the couple of months you have owned the scope you would have been so so much further ahead had you had access to the Picogroup section of this site.

Normaly Picogroup members don't answer in the public boards maybe you could follow this link http://www.autonerdz.com/support.html

In your case today I suggest you get a wiring diagram out and see what other circuits are connected to the wire you are Scoping.

You can post a waveform of the coil ramp in question.

You did not provide a data file but I can see by your images that the scaling for channel B changed between the two frames.

So, I am assuming you have that channel set to 'Auto".

Don't do that.    Smiley

As already mentioned, you would really enhance your PicoScope experience by subscribing to our Picogroup resources:

http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1336513824

We introduced PicoScope to the automotive industry here and remain the only PicoScope automotive specialists.

Access to these resources will save you a lot of time and frustration.  It may seem costly but that's a whole year of access to everything.  And consider..  What's your time worth?

Thank you for your answer Tom Roberts, I appreciate it very much. I am for sure a novice. To even buy the scope with things needed took a lot of time saving money. Next I need to save more money for more education, this will take time. It is my passion to learn this thing, I like big challenges. You are kind to answer my questions, I do respect you getting paid for your services and time. I bow down to your knowledge...

Not to rub it in but...that time would have been well spent researching your purchase.

It's too late now for you probably, but someone else may benefit by knowing that you cannot get a better value kit than one of our custom kits.  They are not initially much more expensive, if at all, when you add up all the extra hardware and the best part is they come with the Picogroup subscription for free:

http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1470930895

You never have to pay for the training so it ends up saving you a fortune over time.  I am glad we could assist with this question.  There will be many more questions.  PicoScope is an ongoing growth experience.  That's why we bundle our training resources with our custom kits.  So that our customers can have the best experience possible.
