Happy New Years, I am not sure if I am posting this int he proper area, but when I try to open a pico file I get the above gibberish. It is a new occurrence, it started a few days back and is only on my home laptop. I am guessing there is something up with this laptop and was wondering if you had any ideas on what I could do to correct it?

It works fine on my work laptops, I tried downloading the newest 6-10-10 version on my home laptop.

Thanks, Smiley

Rich,

I would suspect that your PC is attempting to open the file in an associated app which is not PicoScope but some text program.  Check file type associations.

But..you should always open Pico data files from within PicoScope anyway using the File/Open command and browsing to the file on your PC.  So, download them first and then use PicoScope to browse to them and open.

Thanks Tom,  I was messing around with the laptop this morning and managed to get it back to working. I reset something in the internet security section. I must have mistakenly changed something there that was interfering with opening the files.

In any case, it is back to normal. Thanks again Smiley

Usually if I am looking at a file I would click on it and then a box would open at the bottom of my screen that asks if I want to open, save or cancel. I just click open and it opens picoscope on my laptop and then displays the file.  Is this the proper way of viewing the files? Or is there something I am doing incorrect?  Undecided

When you open a file this way all your setting boxes will be whited out and no one will know how your Pico was set up to capture your wave.

That works OK only if you have the scope plugged into the PC you are using.  Otherwise, you end up with what Mick was describing.

When your scope is not attached, you need to save the file and then open PicoScope, saying yes to demo.  The  you can browse to your downloaded file using Pico's File/Open.

So, if I want to load a capture from one PC to a USB flash and from the USB flash, we can assume we use the PICO to do it, right? That is the problem I had transferring files for Mick, from this fuel pump to the USB and then to another PC.

Fisher,

The files can me moved about just like any other file.  Just how you open them that matters.

The both PCs have to have the same Pico software version on them because an newer version can't be opened by an older one. That's why it's best to have a beta version sitting in each laptop because they open all ps data files
