As a boss looking for employees, experience in one model doesn't bother me, however is is also advantageous as we work on quite a lot of toyota's. What I am looking for and im sure every other employer is, is some one who is passionate, willing to learn, shows up every day and is not a smart arse. Everything else can get taught. You also seem to be a tradesman who is constantly willing to learn.

This is how I have taken on most employees as well as my 2 apprentices I have now.

I had a few interviews this week.

One place was what I would say was a joke.

One of the other ones was a pretty well equipped shop family owned shop and was cleaner than the dealer I am at now.

Anthony: Just how far north of Brisbane are you willing to travel? The boss lady here would love to hire another good tech, the commute would be a gold plated cast iron B!tch though, plus it's butt snapping cold up here, -31c a couple nights ago, -28c tonight.

You ever wanted to work on Transit Buses and Ford e350s and 450s? Power Strokes? We also have some dodge caravans. We also need Techs too. We have had quite a few people change postions thus creating tech vacancies. Know it's a stretch for you Anthony, but I think you would have no problem catching on here, plus I'd be there to help you get accustomed to things. If your interested let me know and I will seriously talk to my boss and put a good word in for you. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Mike, the green card is a seriously hard thing to get hold of, I looked into it some years back.

A mate of mine that specialized in Detroit diesel engines actually went and had a holiday/job interview in the US .
He got the job no worries at all, it was the months of correspondence that went back and forwards.
He actually gave up in the end.

It might be different now that our two countries have a free trade agreement...

Not sure, was going to stop by at some stage and see a few buss fleets to see if they have any apprenticeships for heavy vehicles.

Waiting to see if I hear anything back from Tesla.

Just looking around, hard to find professional workshops that are want to invest in training and tooling is proving the hardest part.

Well with Transit it is sometimes hit and miss. Where I work our tooling in my opinion is pretty good and we training every time we get new buses, but hopefully we will be implementing more in house training in the future. Plus I agree you want to find a good learning and training enviroment where the people are supportive. Maybe some of the other Aussies on here can help you out.
